Tokens, games, and rewards

ForLearnersManagersAdmins

Tokens are the points of Arcade. People earn tokens at work and spend them on rewards. Each token has a cash value: 100 tokens are equal to $1.00 (US dollars). Your organization buys the tokens, so each prize and each gift has a real cost.

Tokens move between these accounts:

Account How it gets tokens What it pays for
Company account Your organization buys them. Game prizes, gifts from managers, and chests for recognition stars.
Personal balance It holds the tokens that the person earns or buys. Rewards, cash out, gifts to colleagues, and games that the person pays for.
Promotional credits Arcade gives them to some organizations. For example, gifts from Champions.

Managers buy tokens with a card or a bank account, for the company account or for their personal balance. A recharge buys tokens automatically when a balance goes below a number that you set.

  • Game prizes. A game gives prizes for results at work. Refer to How a game pays its prizes.
  • Gifts. All people can give tokens from their personal balance to a colleague. A manager with a company budget can also give company tokens. The budget is a monthly limit or the full company account.
  • Chests. A chest holds tokens or no prize. If your organization turns on chests for recognition stars, each star that you get comes with a chest of 50 tokens.

Arcade does not give tokens when you complete training. But training can help you win games:

  • A game can ask for training before you can join it. When you complete that training, Arcade adds you to the game.
  • Some organizations connect training to a game metric. Then each lesson that you complete, and each practice session or certification that you pass, counts as one result.

A game is a contest about a metric, for example sales.

Game type Who wins When Arcade pays
Incentive Each player who gets to the goal. A winner limit can stop the game early. After the verification of the results. Some incentive games pay when a player gets to the goal, or on a schedule.
Race The first players who get to the goal. Each place has one prize. After the verification of the results.
Tournament The players with the highest scores at the end. After the verification of the results.

When a game ends, a manager verifies the results, or Arcade verifies them automatically if the game has auto-verify.

A prize can be tokens, a gift card, or a jackpot. A jackpot gives chests to the winners, and only some of the chests hold the jackpot tokens. In a team game, the prize goes to everyone on the team, to the captains only, or only to the players who are not captains.

When a manager creates a game, Arcade sets aside the tokens for all of its prizes, from the account that pays for the game. After the verification of the results, or when a manager cancels the game, Arcade returns the tokens that it did not pay. An incentive game with no winner limit has no known cost, so Arcade takes the tokens when it pays each prize.

  • The rewards store. Gift cards and other rewards cost 100 tokens for each US dollar of value, minus a discount if there is one. The rewards that you see depend on your organization and your region.
  • Company rewards. Your organization can add its own rewards. It sets their token prices and delivers them. The tokens that you spend on a company reward go back to the company account.
  • Cash out. If your organization offers it, you can change tokens into money, for example to a bank account.

Managers and Champions can do these tasks:

  • Buy tokens, and set up recharges.
  • Create games, and choose the prizes and the account that pays.
  • Set the weekly star limit of each person.
  • Remove tokens from a person, or reverse a transaction.

Only Champions can set the company budget of each manager and turn on chests for recognition stars.

  • A card purchase of tokens has a 5% fee. Some organizations do not pay this fee. A bank purchase has no fee.
  • You can remove only the tokens that a person earned in the last 30 days. The removed tokens go back to the company account.
  • When a person stays locked for 30 days, Arcade removes all of their tokens. These tokens do not go back to the company account.
  • In a race or a tournament, a player with a score of zero cannot win a prize.
  • A reward in a currency other than US dollars follows the exchange rate, so its token price can change.
  • Arcade can pause reward purchases or token gifts for your organization. The app then shows a message, for example Redemption paused.
