Generate a pathway with AI

AI can write a complete draft pathway from a topic and your documents, for example a policy or a product guide. Use it to get a first version in minutes, then review and change it before learners see it.

Before you start

You need a manager or admin role. If you do not see Pathways in Manage, ask an admin in your organization.

Know what AI makes

A generated pathway has one or more AI Training interactions that teach the topic. Then it has one AI Roleplay to practice, and a Certification at the end. A pathway with many topics can end with two or more certifications. Pathway length sets the number of trainings:

• Short · 3: one training, the roleplay, and the certification.
• Standard · 4–6: two to four trainings.
• In-depth · 7+: a training for each distinct topic, when your material has enough content.

When you select Refreshing it in Learners are, AI teaches less and gives more practice and more questions.

A generated certification needs a pass on every card. To accept fewer cards, change its Pass Criteria after the generation. Refer to Edit an interaction.

Start a generation

1. Go to Manage›Pathways, select New, then select Generate Pathway with AI.
2. In Training topic, tell what learners must know and do at the end.
3. Optional: in Reference materials, attach your files. Under each file, select how AI uses it.
4. Check the settings in Shape the pathway, then select Generate pathway.

Get the pathway that you want

• Tell AI what to use. AI reads the topic as your instructions. If AI must use only your documents, write “Use only the attached files” in the topic.
• Attach only the parts that matter. Attach the chapters that teach the topic, not a full manual. AI reads about 200 pages in total. If your files have more pages, the generation stops and names the files to remove or split.
• Give each file the correct role. Keep Teach this content for the material that learners must learn. Use Background knowledge for a file that only gives context, for example a product catalog for realistic roleplays. AI also uses this file when it writes what a correct answer must have, so do not attach a file that is out of date. Use Style reference for a file that has the tone that you want, but not the facts.
• Link only public web pages. AI reads the web pages that you link in the topic, a maximum of 5. If AI cannot open a link, the generation stops. Remove the link, or attach the page as a file.
• Use a supported file type. You can attach PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, CSV, TXT, SCORM packages, and images. The limit is 5 files and 50 MB in total. You cannot attach audio or video files.

Leave while AI works

A generation usually takes a few minutes. If you close the window, the generation continues, and a card on the Pathways page shows the progress. When the draft is ready, Arcade saves it to the library. Refer to Follow a pathway that AI generates.

Review the draft

The new pathway is a draft, so learners do not see it. Before you publish it:

1. Open each interaction and compare the facts with your documents. AI can make mistakes.
2. Check the Pass Criteria of the certification.
3. Publish the pathway, then assign it.
